A Huge Swarm Of Honey Bees Hanging In A Tree

About three days after collecting my first ever swarm the phone ran again and it was our friend’s whos garden I was in when the previous swarm came. They told me they had a few bees hanging off a tree in there garden and could I go and get them?

Absolutely!!

About 10 minutes later, I was round there, and I looked at the swarm and thought Jesus christ that is huge!!!

I put my trusty cardboard box underneath the tree, held the branch with one hand and cut the branch clean off with the other hand and dropped the bees into the box and shut the lid!!

It literally took me 20 seconds to get this massive swarm captured.

I drove round to my garden and opened up a hive and dropped the bees in.

The trouble then started…

When I tipped the bees out of the box and into the new hive, they decided that I was warmer than the hive and the whole colony sat on my body, and for the next 45 minutes, I was scooping handfuls of bees off me.

They then decided that the outside of the hive next door was a better place to go, so they sat there instead.

As the temperatures dropped, they soon started to go back to the hive I wanted them in, and I eventually got home without any stings. I can almost say that it was a successful catch!
